Separate Peace
The story is about Gene and Finny who are both students at Devon school. Gene is quiet and very smart, he tries to do well in school. Finny is outgoing and very good in sports. They are opposites that become best friends. They struggle together through many challenges at school. They both seem to be jealous of the others abilites. After Finnys fall their friendship is tested several times, but in the end they seem to work it out .

The plot is based around an unnamed protagonist who struggles with his growing discomfort with consumerism and changes in the state of masculinity in American culture. In an attempt to overcome this, he creates an underground boxing club as a radical form of therapy. Palahniuk uses the narrator and Tyler to comment on how people in modern society try to find meaning in their lives through commercial culture.
